Ok, it was my birthday recently and inevitably I like to reflect a little.
Yes, I’m getting older!
But it got me thinking about relationships and the purpose of them…
Whether that’s my relationships with family members, friends or what most people are focussed on…
In particular, it got me thinking about the fact that most people take a very narrow view on relationships…
They focus on intimacy, sex, connection, getting things, giving things and so on.
But as long as that’s all your looking at relationships for, you’re missing the big picture.
Some of my greatest lessons that I’ve learnt in my life have all come from some of the most challenging relationships that I’ve had.
Whether that’s learning about the importance of developing forgiveness after constantly getting criticised by mum…
Or developing empathy when my ex girlfriend cheated on me…
Or learning the art of truly giving love from my beautiful wife.
Even though they can be painful as hell…and you may want to run from it as far and as fast as possible, trust that there is a silver lining…
A light that will shine when you open your eyes to it…
And when you do, I promise you will achieve a level of growth and liberation that you never thought possible.
Now, I know sometimes identifying these lessons can be really difficult. In fact, it took me years and years of introspection but I’m all for compressing years into months and days.
