Have You Really Tried Everything?

“I’ve missed over 9000 shots in my career.  I’ve lost over 300 games.  26 times i’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over again in my life and that is why…I succeed” – Michael Jordan

It’s been a busy few weeks running client sessions and workshops. Having the opportunity to live my mission and serve others is a dream come true and one that I don’t take for granted. I’m thoroughly lucky to be able to do what I do – helping people take their lives to the next level is a real blessing and it’s something I couldn’t have imagined whilst being previously part of the rat race, that is the corporate world.
I use the term luck loosely because I firmly believe that we make our own luck.  In all of the research i’ve done into individuals who elevate themselves into unparalleled levels of success, one of the most important traits they all have is their ability to make a decision and then stick to it with perseverance. In other words, they don’t try to do something, they simply do it!

The Shift

A few years ago, I knew something had to change. I was miserable. Going to work daily without a sense of purpose, a sense of mission or any enjoyment was one of the most soul destroying experiences that I had ever had. Every day was the definition of frustration and I knew that if I kept going like this, with the high levels of stress and anxiety, my life was going to be cut short. I had to do something. I had to take action. But what am I going to do? I love coaching but where on earth do I start? What action do I take?

For the next 2 years, I had convinced myself that I was trying really hard to do something about this. Simply thinking about the idea of moving onto this new path, whether it was a thought or just watching a few inspirational youtube videos, I felt like I genuinely was trying! Sound familiar?

“I’ve Tried Everything!”

I often get clients coming to me stating that they’ve tried everything to achieve their goal. The truth is that – it’s not that they’ve tried everything. It’s that they’ve tried everything but the thing that works!
The day my life changed was when I removed the word try from my vocabulary. I had to resolve in myself that whenever I pursued anything, I was simply going to ensure that I kept driving on my road towards success non-stop until I achieved my goal – simple as that. I couldn’t allow myself to get sucked back into the  mode of self pity – this was only going to reduce my chances of achieving my goals and it had to change.
From that day on, I took my physical health, relationships, finances and emotional wellbeing to a completely new level! All from that simple shift of changing my language and making a commitment to not trying anymore, but ‘doing’ it!

It’s Time to Change

So how often do you use the word try? Whats an area of your life where you’ve tried and tried but you just can’t seem to get the results you want? Have you really tried everything? Or are you settling for less than you deserve cause it’s all too hard and the setbacks that you’ve experienced all feel like too much?
Remember, Thomas Edison failed 1000 times before the lightbulb was invented. Colonel Sander’s recipe got rejected 1009 times before a restaurant accepted it.
Simply don’t let the word try come into your vocabulary. If one approach doesn’t work, use another one. If that doesn’t work, tweak it again…and again and again and again until you find the one that works! When things don’t work, its not a reflection of your skills, your ability or your worth as an individual – its just that approach wasn’t the right one. Keep persevering and I promise you success will land on your doorstep.
